This article will help users to understand how to create a Multi-axis chart. Multi-axis charts can be useful when there are 2 numerical variables and a single categorical variable. These two numerical variables then can be shown on two separate Y-axes with a common X-axis (categorical variable).

Example: Let’s say, we want to show the ‘Total cost’ and ‘Minimum cost’ with respect to Employees on a single chart. One can drag these columns and create a Bar chart. By default it should show me a Bar chart with two numerical variables but there can be cases in which there is huge difference in the values of these two numerical variables. Hence, only one numerical variable would be visible in the Bar chart and the other whose values are far away from scale range of first variable won’t be seen.

To solve this problem, users can use Multi-axis chart which will have two y-axes with different scale ranges with respect to a common x-axis.

Following are the steps to create a Multi-axis chart:

Step 1: Create any axis chart with two numerical variables and one categorical variable. Generate the chart and then click on
Customize button.


 

Step 2: Now select the Add Y2 axis option by double-clicking on it


 

Step 3: Select the Numerical Variable that you want to shown on the second Y-axis


 










Step 4: Click on apply button as shown below:


 

Users can now see a Multi-axis chart in which the values of second numerical variable are shown on the right hand side axis of chart.

To undo the changes, user can again click on the
Add Y2 axis icon and then click on the apply tick mark.
